The police are likely to arraign a 32-year-old man today after he allegedly shot another man, slightly injuring him.

Sources said the two had been involved in an argument over hunting.

On Monday at about 7.30 p.m., the police were informed that shots had been fired in a field in the limits of Siġġiewi. The police said a 26-year-old man was slightly injured in the shooting.

According to police sources, the owner of the field, Horace Fenech and Nicholas Catania, who became friends because they shared the same passion for hunting, had a heated discussion at about 7 p.m. in Mr Fenech's field.

During the argument, Mr Fenech reportedly ordered Mr Catania off his property and, although details are sketchy, it was then that the shots were fired from a distance and Mr Catania was slightly injured. He then went to file a police report.

Mr Catania was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital on Monday night and released early yesterday morning.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke was informed about the incident and appointed several experts to help her in an inquiry.
