The Malta Union of Teachers has given the government a two-week ultimatum to rectify its position on supply teaching staff.

In a letter to the Education Minister, the union said that on October 31 it had declared an industrial dispute with the government on a number of issues, including this one and the implementation of a reform agreement and a proposed addendum.

It said that although two months had passed, little progress had been registered.

The union said the delays were unjustified, adding that during official talks before the general election, a basis of an agreement had been reached on supply teachers, supply kindergarten assistants and supply learning support assistants.
