Georges Meekers is the first Malta-based wine professional to become a member of the esteemed international Circle of Wine Writers founded in 1960 by the late Cyril Ray in the UK.

Belgian-born, Mr Meekers has been residing in Malta for nearly 20 years and is actively involved in the wine trade.

In the late 1990s he picked up wine writing, and now contributes to international wine trade magazines with vintage reports on upcoming wine regions and Malta in particular.

Earlier this year, a commendable review of his award-winning book, Wines of Malta - The Essential Guide, drew the attention of the Circle of Wine Writers.

Outside Malta, Mr Meekers is better known as the founder of Wine Campus, the wine school specialising in wine education via the internet.

The Circle of Wine Writers is only open to and reserved for accredited wine journalists and other professionals communicating in the media about wine. The association's membership list reads like a Who's Who of wine writing.

Currently, Mr Meekers is working on his next publication, which is a fusion of his original take on wine and recipes by contributing top chefs.
