Calamatta Cuschieri & Co. Ltd, the investment company, has been granted a Category 3 licence by the Malta Financial Services Authority, giving it full rights to deal directly on its account in international bond markets.

"As long-established participants in the market, the licence upgrade will allow the company to benefit from direct dealing with international market makers," business development director Alan Cuschieri explained.

"This will ensure that our clients will receive the best possible at all times and consolidate our position as one of the leaders in the local financial services market."

The company has also appointed Michael Galea as Head of Treasury Operations to be responsible for this new business arm. Mr Galea holds an MBA and a B.Com (Hons) Banking & Finance degree from the University of Malta. He joins the company from Mediterranean Bank plc where he headed the markets and investments division.

As one of Malta's largest investment advisory and stock broking firms that pioneered the local industry as early as 1972, Calamatta Cuschieri enjoys an objective and global perspective, encompassing a wide spectrum of financial assets from bonds to shares, as well as currencies and structured products.

It is licensed to conduct investment services business by the MFSA and is a founding member of the Malta Stock Exchange.
