Church and Convent of St Dominic
St Dominic's Church and Convent are located on Triq San Duminku c/w Triq il-Merkanti with the convent's entrance being from Triq San Duminku and the church's entrance from Triq il-Merkanti.
The church is the only one in Valletta with such a concave façade divided into three bays. The small parvis has a boundary wall with an iron railing and statues on the gate posts. The church is laid out on a Latin cross plan with a vaulted nave and dome over the crossing. The nave has three bays and the aisles consist of three chapels roofed over by small domes. The chapels flanking the altar/choir are also domed. The original church was built in 1571 by Gerolamo Cassar which was enlarged to accommodate the needs of the local community. The present church was designed by Antonio Cachia and completed in 1815.
Mepa scheduled the church and convent of St Dominic as a Grade 1 national monument as per Government Notice number 276/08 in the Government Gazette dated March 28.
