Situation in prison back to normal

The situation at the Corradino Correctional Facilities is back to normal with all prisoners in all divisions accepting their food as from yesterday evening.

Most prisoners at Division 12 started refusing their food on Christmas day in protest at having different conditions to other prisoners but most gave in to hunger pangs by the evening and during the day yesterday. Sources said that all were now eating.

Sources told timesofmalta.com yesterday morning that Division 12 was one of three divisions which have been given conditions which are different to the rest of the prisons.

But a spokesman for the Justice Ministry said that the privileges afforded to prisoners were regulated by law. He denied that any rules had been breached saying that no blanket measures had been taken against any division but only against individual prisoners who misbehaved.
