FKNK back in Ornis
The Hunters' Federation (FKNK) has decided to return its representation in the Ornis committee as from next January to insist on bird trapping and spring hunting.
Last August FKNK withdrew its representation on the committee in protest over the government's decision to disallow trapping of two bird species beyond the end of the year .
The federation said it had prepared a dossier offering satisfactory solutions on the future of trapping. A meeting had been held with officials at the Office of the Prime Minister and a meeting with the Labour Party had been requested.
It said it would do its best to uncover the "lies and mistaken information" made by BirdLife Malta and it would insist that Maltese hunters and trappers enjoyed the same rights as those in Europe, including the right for trapping as practised in Italy, Austria, France, and Spain.
It would also insist that Malta should enjoy the same rights enjoyed by the UK to apply derogations that permit hunting throughout the year, including the spring.

@MMB: Actually one of the many reasons why I voted in favour of the EU is that it would start to bring hunting and trapping under control. The only way you could have understood otherwise is by closing your eyes and ears.
As for derogations: Have Maltese hunters and trappers shown that they can be trusted to restrict themselves to following the law? No. And please don't try pretending that only a tiny minority do that. Hunters have only made it clear that, if they're allowed to roam the countryside with a shotgun, anything with feathers will be blown out of the sky.

@MMB
My tolerance is lacking…sure when a bunch of trigger happy thugs pretend that the Maltese countryside is their fiefdom.
The issue is not whether hunting should be banned worldwide or not, but whether it is democratic and fair that in such a restricted place like Malta, the public can only safely appreciate the countryside just on Sundays afternoon. And this, so 2% of the population can enjoy their perverted 'past-time'.
If this is not extremism and egoistic, then we have very different dictionaries.
As to my culinary delights – rest assured that I enjoy every moment of it, in the knowledge that it is neither the result of bloodshed, nor an imposition over the fair and democratic rights of others!

Not even the Christmas Spirit has managed to instil some respect towards others in certain people!!!
Well said Mr MMB. Whatever Mr Borg opts to write, he still voted in favour of spring hunting when he said that he voted for the EU. As for Mr. Finch, he should go to the UK himself if he does not like to see the Maltese Hunters being treated equally like other Europeans.
Happy Christmas to all!

Believe you me, I based my EU vote on the knowledge of EU principals. Which amongst other things are based on tolerance. Which quite obviously in your case is lacking.
The EU, to your utter frustration, recognizes the rights of millions of its citizens to hunt. This explains all its directives and policies regulating this pastime. Since you also seem unaware, the Maltese government is contesting the interpretation of a derogation pertaining to one of these directives.
My only consolation is that Government has entrusted the FKNK with it's defense. This ensures as you rightly state that the Government and AG's charades do not form part of the equation.
I thank you for being of service and may your constant nagging and intolerance prove to be the downfall of the anti hunter. People with a bit of sense realizxe that your extremism has no place in civil society.
Wishing you all the best. Incidentally what do you replace your Christmas turkey with in order to lessen the killing and bloodshed? Turnips!!

@ MMB
If you based your Malta’s EU accession vote, naively enough on what the local political parties said (or induced them to tell you), rather than taking the initiative to assess the EU policies and directives – that’s your problem.
You are entitled to continue to believe in government’s and the AG’s charades of taking your case to the EU court – but rest assured that neither I nor the majority of the Maltese taxpayers will be ready to foot any additional bill, for either the hunters’ community or the political opportunists’ sake.
I am pleased that you have finally found a proper form of entertainment, that does not involve killing and bloodshed – thus I am pleased to continue to be of service.
Greetings!

AH, so the children have decided to come back and play after taking thier bat and ball home.
How many more times will they claim there are lies against them?
If they want to insist, they should go to the European court and insist there. See how far it gets them. ALso if they want to enjoy the same rights as enjoyed by the UK, then go to the UK. WIth freedom of movement now there is nothing stopping you, otherwise stop your bleating and be thankful for what you have.
Merry Christmas.

JBorg.
Keep up these sort of comments as they prove to be the best form of entertainment after circus clowns.
Unless your comment derives from a severe case of dementia, you might wish to consider all the PN stated about hunting and trapping before the EU referendum. If you voted for EU at the time, then your vote supported what hunters and trappers were promised. Thank you for your support.
Indeed no politician or organization can set the clock backwards. Even more so, no insignificant comment by a lone confirmed intolerant anti-hunter will have that effect.
I'm afraid to have to tell you that in this case you are going to have to lump it!!
Government confirmed it's participation in the defense of Malta's hunters at the EU courts and that is exactly what it will be doing. Whether J. Borg likes it or not.

Great, we have been shot showered off the countryside throughout Autumn and Winter
Then when the majestic Spring comes along - these pseudo-conservationalists want to conserve the countryside for their own egoistic blasting.
The ever limited Maltese countryside - being practically the fiefdom of 2% of the population - quite twisted logic!
We have endured decades of abuses and we voted for European Directives to uphold a quality of life - including a peaceful enjoyment of our countryside - and possibly of birds in the future - AND no spineless politician or egoistic organisation will set the clock backwards.
