Untying The Irish Knot (December 17) was another interesting article by Simon Busuttil.

Any negative reactions to it were not motivated by a love for the Irish but rather by a hate for anything with a hint of EU.

There is nothing in the Lisbon Treaty that goes against Ireland or the Irish. The treaty merely aims at furthering cooperation between member states. If any country can be singled out for having obtained exceptionally positive economic results since joining the EU, then that country is undoubtedly Ireland. Yet, none of these critics cite Ireland for verging on the egoistic.

The first referendum was lost because the Yes side underestimated the No propaganda and had ignored the four issues now being mentioned. At the end of the day a positive result would benefit Ireland and the EU in general.

The reason why the Irish government is intent of having another try is because it takes some people extra time to see beyond the end of their noses and, judging by the negative remarks by the usual people to Dr Busuttil's articles, myopia is not Irish copyright.
