Updated: Two women injured in Birzebbuga fight

Two girls were injured, one of them seriously, in a fight at Birzebbuga seafront last night.

Eyewitnesses said the fight appeared to have started in a bar close to the police station at about 10.45 p.m. At one time a man involved in the fight ran away with others giving chase. A short time later a car was seen driving at the youths who had been giving chase.

Blows were traded between a number of people and the situation was only calmed down when policemen arrived in eight cars. Two ambulances were also on the scene.

The injured were a 15-year-old girl hit by a bottle and a 16-year-old slightly injured when she was hit by the car.

A man is being questioned by the police.
