Hunters' thanks to BirdLife Malta
The Federation for Hunting and Conservation - Malta (FKNK) would like to thank BirdLife (Malta) for their trust in an FKNK project, namely the Ducks Village on Manoel Island.
BirdLife put Alan Quigley from St Paul's Bay (Birds Of The Same Feather, December 15) in touch with the voluntary FKNK member caretaker of the Ducks Village. Through his expertise and notwithstanding a very stormy, wet and windy day, he managed to capture a female Muscovy duck that had previously gone missing from near Mr Quigley's home. The duck is at present in the company of other duck species at the Ducks Village.
The Ducks Village was a pilot project of the FKNK together with the Gzira local council in the mid-1990s that eventually led to several species of duck being released, mostly by FKNK members, not just at the Village but around most of our islands' seashore. Joe Borg has managed the Village on a voluntary basis since its inception, and the only financial contributions towards the project over the years have always been invested by the FKNK, the Gzira local council and through the public's generosity. Nothing has come from central government or the EU.

Mr Quigley is visiting family in the UK for christmas, but l am sure he would have been pleased to read this letter. l will e mail it to him so he can read it on his return. That Thursday was a dreadful day and Alan fetched Joe from Sliema spent an hour out in the bad with weather to catch the duck, then drove to Duck island to release her to safety. He then drove back home very grateful to Joe and his wife Doris..

I have to agree with Charles Sammut here. Hopefully this sort of co-operation between the two groups can be extended to other areas.

Now isn't that more satisfying than shooting them? Well done all round.
