Foreign Minister Tonio Borg said this morning that Sylvana Callus, the 32-year-old woman from Mqabba most seriously injured in yesterday's shooting incident in Mqabba was lucky to be alive.

"By some miracle the pellets did not penetrate the skull" he said.

He said the man who caused the incident had been trying to enter the club but Ms Callus and others closed the door, and he fired through the door.

She also suffered a broken arm.

Dr Borg said the two unarmed policemen at the scene at the time had done a remarkable job in having tackled the man and then arrested him.

Dr Borg, who is the PN deputy leader, also visited the club today. He was accompanied on his hospital visit by Nationalist MEP Simon Busuttil.
