Lija in a mess

In Lija, we seem to be going from bad to worse. This is happening either because those responsible do not care or they are wearing blinkers and cannot see the wood for the trees. Heavy traffic is supposed to be prohibited from various streets in Lija.

Heavy traffic is supposed to be prohibited from various streets in Lija. Yet, almost every day, heavy vehicles come through and nobody takes any action to try to stop them even though it has been reported to the local council many times.

This week, our recycling bag was not collected and when we phoned the local council we were told to keep the bag until next week.

The street light number 140 at Triq il-Kbira has been going on and off during the night for the past few weeks and, although it has been reported to the local council, no action has been taken. Dog excrement is all over the streets Lija and one has to be careful where to tread when out walking.

Moreover, the empty spaces to the left and right of the primary school entrance are full of rubbish - this is the first lesson children receive on how to keep our country clean.

Vehicles often park on double yellow lines and no one bats an eyelid. While a lot of towns and villages try to discourage traffic from going through the centre, our square is an entrance to a main motorway.

If anyone feels the need to dispute any of the points listed, I would be happy to provide photographic evidence.
