We have been told that €80 million will be spent on another Renzo Piano project (to house in the old Opera House site) that will only aggravate the many problems facing Valletta. I had written to the authorities, held meetings and also written in the press that the theatre and the Valletta entrance could be built without seeking any funds from the Exchequer.
It seems that the inner circle stand to gain more from such a futile project. Even tenor Joseph Calleja has declared the need for a grand theatre, but who cares?
Unfortunately, the 'know-alls' do not want to listen. They are too proud, or worse, they stand to gain from futile projects while wasting taxpayer's money. I have been warned many times not to oppose the high and mighty. I have suffered because I voice my concerns. The main problem is that political supporters tend to consider everything from a myopic perspective. The theatre and other projects have nothing to do with political dogma. Every citizen has the right to voice his concern but where is the open dialogue?
