Crafts and arts society Prize Day, exhibition

The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce recently held its annual Prize Day for the 600 part-time students who attended the art, crafts and music courses run by the society during the 2007/2008 scholastic year.

The society's acting president Joseph J. Mifsud presented certificates to over 70 students who placed first, second or third in their respective courses' end-of-year exam.

Nineteen students who placed first were also presented with a three-month scholarship under the Special Projects programme. The funds were raised during a dinner held last May at Villa Arrigo, Naxxar.

Mr Mifsud later inaugurated the annual exhibition featuring crafts and arts students' work, including Malta lace, ganutell, crochet, embroidery, beading, tailoring, soft furnishing, parchment, plastic canvas, model-making, model ship building, gilding, wood carving paintings in various media, sculptures in stone and clay, floral art and glass painting.
