R8 sports car on display

The award-winning Audi R8 will be featuring at the charity event Paqpaqli għall-Istrina tomorrow at the Valletta Waterfront between 10 a.m. and 5p.m.

Continental Cars Ltd said the vehicle is on display for a limited period of time at its new Audi Showroom in Testaferrata Street, Ta' Xbiex.

The R8 racing car has five wins to its name in the Le Mans 24 Hours and the car makers say it is the most successful model ever to have competed on the legendary circuit at Le Mans.

In a total of 79 starts at venues all over the world, the R8 emerged victorious in 62 of them.

The Audi R8 has also achieved a double victory at the 2008 World Performance Car of the Year Awards, winning both the World Performance Car and the World Car Design of the Year awards. It represents the only true sports car that was ever made by a German car manufacturer, its makers say.

Audi has become, as part of the VW group, a subsidiary of Porsche anyway!

I think "It represents the only true sports car that was ever made by a German car manufacturer, its makers say" SHOULD READ "It represents the only true sports car that was ever made by THE (that is AUDI)German car manufacturer, its makers say"
Otherwise it's an insult to other manufacturers like Porsche (just to name one) which has been building sports cars since its existence!

I wonder what it costs in Malta. It's $120,000 in the USA..

This article is incorrect, please distinguish between the R8 race car, and the R8 road car pictured as they are completely independent models, with no common features apart from the nomenclature.

The author must be slightly confused. The Le Mans R8 is not the same car as the R8 which won the World Performance Car award (the one in the picture). Also - i think the guys in suits at Porsche, Mercedes and BMW, not to mention Gumpert, Weissmann and other not-so-well-known German manufacturers, might object slightly at that last claim.....
