Heritage Malta repairs car crash damage to Roman Domus fence

A stone column and railings at the Roman Domus in Rabat have been repaired by Heritage Malta after a car crashed into the perimeter fence four days ago.

A neo-classical ornamental filial that topped the column broke into three parts when it toppled over and is still under restoration at Heritage Malta's stone laboratory in Bighi.

The fence, columns and filials were part of the original museum built in 1925, Heritage Malta said.

The police are investigating the incident, which took place at about 11.30 p.m. on Tuesday. The culprit simply drove off and nobody has owned up to the damage.

The police believe the vehicle first crashed into some trees at Howard Gardens before crossing the road and crashing into the boundary fence of the Roman Domus.
