Customs dog finds birds in luggage
A Customs dog sniffed out five protected birds in the luggage of a Maltese man at Malta International Airport last week, it was revealed yesterday.
A spokesman for Customs said yesterday the passenger had just arrived from Frankfurt, Germany. As he walked through the nothing-to-declare channel, one of the dogs started sniffing his luggage. Officers investigated and found the five dead birds wrapped in carbon paper and divided into four packages.
Importation of such birds is prohibited.
