Man, 28, accused of Qormi murder
Murder victim Neville Baldacchino.
Stephen Caruana, 28 of Qormi, was today charged in court with the murder of Neville Baldacchino, who was shot four times early yesterday. He was also accused of the illegal possession of a shotgun and firing it in an inhabited area.
Mr Caruana pleaded not guilty.
Defence counsel Gianella Caruana Curran in requesting bail, said that Mr Caruana had reported the case to the police himself and there was no risk of tempering with evidence.
Police Inspector Chris Pullicino, prosecuting, objected until evidence by Mr Baldacchino's relatives is heard. He said that such evidence could lead to trouble between Mr Caruana and his wife. Bail was refused.
The incident happened at about 12.45 a.m. yesterday on the roof of Mr Caruana's residence at Triq id-Drama, Qormi.

It's not a gun problem, it's a people problem.
@ K.Farrugia and Joseph Calleja...
Guns do not kill people....It is guns in the hands of people that kill people.

Sure M.B.
that's why it is about time that firearms should be confiscated
and allowed to be withdrawn and used within shooting ranges

The gun was not even registered. People kill, not guns. Snub out the superficialities in a moment of sadness both for the victim and the person charged.

@ F. Farrugia..
It's never fair to put everyone in one basket you know. I am the owner of a shotgun which I solely use for clay shooting which is a very interesting and demanding sport. I just see my shotgun as an accessory for sport and as far as i'm concerned i'm very serious when handling it...
However, I agree that tests and license requirements can be harsher...and maybe the police can be more analytical on those who apply for a permit...

It's a gun problem. I see absolutely NO VALID reason why anyone should have a reason to own a shotgun. I, personally, would not sleep at night with a gun of any sort in the house! But that's me.
It's a people problem - guns need to be let off in order to kill people! It needs a human being to pull the trigger.
It therefore all adds up to a mentality problem: guns are in the hands of those who would use them, fullstop!

what Gun Problem? They don't have to do anything, since the gun was not registered on the user's name! He was accused of illegal possession!
