Sliema ASC coach Sergio Afric is currently on a week-long visit to Italy after heeding ES Catania's call to lead the team for their A1 Championship match against RS Bogliasco tomorrow.

In a statement, Sliema ASC stressed that Afric, who is also in charge of the Maltese national team, will only stay in Sicily for a week after ES Catania, who recently parted company with coach Giovanni Puliafito, asked the Croatian to assist the team's preparations for the match against Bogliasco. The latter have former Neptunes player Steve Camilleri in their ranks.

"This arrangement has the full blessing and approval of Sliema Aquatic Sports Club," the statement, signed by Tony Psaila, the club's honorary secretary, said.

"Furthermore, the president of the Aquatic Sports Association (Robbie Ebejer) also confirmed the above regarding Afric's visit to Catania."

A few months ago, Sliema ASC announced that they had reached agreement with Afric to return for a second spell as coach of their senior waterpolo team.

The Times yesterday reported that an Italian waterpolo website had claimed that Afric was set to renew his connections as coach of ES Catania who are struggling in the championship, having gained only one point from eight matches.
