Cristiano's seventh-minute goal against Al Ahly was enough for Adelaide United to clinch fifth place at the FIFA Club World Cup in a game of few chances at the International Stadium in Yokohama yesterday. Cristiano won possession in the inside-left channel, cut inside and let fly an unstoppable right-footed shot, which swerved past the dive of the outstretched Al Ahly goalkeeper and into the top right hand corner of the net. At the final whistle, Adelaide, who lost 1-0 to Gamba Osaka in the quarter-finals, celebrated a fine showing at this tournament, while Al Ahly slumped off the pitch after two defeats in matches they thought they would win. The African champions had lost 4-2 to Mexico's Pachuca after extra-time.
