Maltese truck driver dies in French road accident
A man from Żabbar, Noel Magro, died tragically when the trailer truck he was driving was involved in a road accident near Lens, in northern France.
Although French police reports of what actually took place were yesterday still very sketchy, Mr Magro, 39, is understood to have been alone when the accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon on the highway. He died on the spot.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed that an accident involving a Maltese national in France did in fact take place but would not release further details.
Members of Mr Magro's family flew to France yesterday where they met representatives of the Maltese consul.
This year 15 Maltese nationals died abroad, five more than in 2007.
