Alternattiva Demokratika has published an official government report on the Għadira project which explores the environmental impact of three different options for the redevelopment of the thoroughfare.

AD said it obtained the document, commissioned by the Malta Transport Authority in 2005, after asking the planning authority for it earlier this month in terms of the Aarhus Convention, which grants people access to environmental information.

The report, Proposed Review Of Għadira Road Options Nodes NA3-NA4, was produced in 2005 by AIS Environmental.

The document is now on the party's website www.alternattiva.org.mt in line with its call for full transparency regarding the proposed road. Transport Minister Austin Gatt had said there were no environmental studies carried out on the proposal but AD chairman Arnold Cassola reiterated he was in possession of the cover of a report prepared on behalf of the ADT. The government last month revealed its plan to replace the existing Għadira road with another running alongside the back of the Danish Village complex and the Għadira nature reserve, touching the Foresta 2000 project site as part of the proposed EU Trans-European Transport Network.
