While one cannot but agree with giving a world-renowned architect the commission to draw up plans for City Gate and the Opera House site, I fail to understand or agree that Malta should have a mastodontic Parliament for 69 members which only use it for 12 hours a week.

The genius of Renzo Piano can be utilised to plan a Parliament cum theatre as an innovation and lessen the expense.

This idea would go down well with theatre lovers and allow enough space for Parliament.

In the UK, the mother of parliaments does not enjoy a large area while London abounds with theatres. In fact, I read in influential UK newspapers that millions of tourists visit London in view of the numerous theatres while Valletta only has two, when Gozo can afford two big opera houses.

I fail to understand why Malta cannot afford one large theatre cum Parliament. Elderly tourists who visit Malta require a theatre for their evening entertainment and not night clubs or cultural areas.
