First Hunter Field Target competition

The MAAC recently held its first Hunter Field Target competition since earning recognition from the United Kingdom Association for Hunter Field Target.

It was a perfect day for such an event with bad weather sweeping the Victoria Shooting Range at Ħandaq. Hunter Field Target events consist of 10 targets in 10 different lanes of varying difficulties and distances.

While in the traditional Field Target, distances and positions are established at 15m to 50m, in Hunter Field Target distances vary between eight to 40m. They are set at random and unknown positions except for the Range Officer in charge.

Top shooter on the day was James Bugeja. He dominated from the start and finished with a score of 21 from a possible 30.

Bugeja is really starting to show what he is capable of with a superb display after his second placing in last month's Field Target competition. On that occasion, he only lost first placing to David Giardina in a shoot-off.

Kris Debattista was second behind Bugeja with 18 knock-downs. The fight for third place, between Gordon Gouder and Giardina, was determined after a shoot-off. Giardina confirmed he's an ace when figuring in shoot-offs as he claimed the platonic honour with five knock-downs from six to Gouder's three.

The next MAAC event will be a Bench Rest competition on Sunday with all proceeds on the day going for charity.
