Palermo award for Maltese film-maker

The documentary, “Sinews”, by Maltese film-maker Clifford Borg-Marks has won a Paladino d’Oro award for Best Foreign Film at the 30^th Palermo International Sport Film Festival (also known as the Rassegna Cinematografica Internazionale di Palermo).

Borg-Marks attended the gala ceremony held at the Teatro Politeama to receive his award. “Sinews” had also been nominated for Best Film and Best Sound-mix.

This latest accolade followed the Mention d’Honneur garnered by Borg-Marks’s film at the Sport Movies & TV International Festival in Milan in November.

“Sinews” was produced by Hong Kong-based EastZone Films. It takes a close look at Chinese sport movies through the ages, documents the rise of Chinese sport and discusses its long-term impact on the population at large.

The film was screened at the Cinema Fiamma in Palermo’s city centre in connection with the festival. It was also screened recently at the St. James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Valletta at a cultural evening organized by the Malta-China Friendship Society.
