Teenagers suspected of series of car thefts

The police are questioning two teenagers in connection with a number of thefts from Żebbuġ, Qormi, Siġġiewi and Birkirkara after they were caught red-handed stealing from a car on Monday night.

The police said that during that night, someone informed them anonymously that a car was being burgled in Qrejzu Street in Birkirkara.

The police went to the place indicated by the caller and saw two youths running away.

The police said that one of them, aged 15, was apprehended moments later in Old Church Street in Birkirkara. Some tools and the removable front of a car stereo were found in his possession during a search.

The youth was arrested for questioning and as a result of subsequent investigations another youngster of 16 was arrested.

The police said that apart from the attempted theft in Qrejzu Street, the two are also being suspected of other thefts and of damaging cars in the other localities.

The Birkirkara district police are conducting the investigations.
