Rather than attempting to retain the existing sandy beach by constructing a new road some distance away from, and instead of, the existing road, to the annoyance and detriment of the Danish Holiday Complex, I suggest that that the existing road be retained and that the beach be protected from the sea side. The construction of the new road, as proposed, affords no protection to the beach and is only an open invitation to the sea to gradually reclaim the existing beach further in the coming years.
The existing beach could be extremely well protected by the construction of groynes, and submerged breakwaters if necessary, out at sea. Their most suitable location, magnitude and extent would be best determined by model tests.
Once the groynes and breakwaters are in place, while retaining the present shore-line between the existing road and the sandy beach, the latter could be extended further out at sea, without danger of any sand depletion, and the existing road could be widened landward or seaward if and when necessary.
