Malta International Airport has, for the first time, welcomed in excess of three million passengers in one year.

The company said today that the milestone was reached on Wednesday afternoon with the arrival of flight KM101 from London Heathrow.

Julian Jaeger, MIA's CEO presented a bouquet of flowers to Bernie Mizzi (picture) who was identified as the 3 millionth passenger for 2008.

In 2007 passenger movements recorded at MIA for the full year 2.97 million. Passenger movements this year are expected to show growth despite the general global downturn in tourism.
