Big rise in overseas travel in October
The number of locals travelling abroad in October was up by 21.7 per cent over the same month last year.
The National Statistics Office said those leaving the islands were estimated at just over 21,000, of which the majority travelled by air.
Of these, some 17,700 travelled to EU destinations, the most popular being Italy and the United Kingdom.
Between January and October, the NSO estimated there were 250,300 local outbound passengers, 6.6 per cent more than in the corresponding period last year.
Of these, 85.6 per cent travelled to EU destinations, again the most popular being Italy and the UK.

Mr. Calleja must be the only one bragging, while the rest of the Maltese are petrified to switch the bedroom lights or having a shower. One can estimate the power of money Maltese earn @ LM1.50 an hour. It doesn't take you far overseas.

Another tangable example that most Maltese are still not feeling any pinch and statistics show that even October proved positive with local travellers. Usually we travel in the summer season but with a 21 percent inrease there is ample indication that travelling has no season. Maybe those who went abroad also found time and money to buy the latest goods on the international market at convenient prices.
