The Times recently published a letter from me about the theft of a Muscovy duck from near our home in St Paul's Bay.

Readers may be interested to know that as we were concerned for the safety of the female survivor, BirdLife Malta put us in touch with Joe, a gentleman who has a duck sanctuary at Gżira. On a very stormy, wet and windy day, Joe took the trouble to use his expertise to catch our little friend and we took her to his island sanctuary to join others of her kind, who immediately made her welcome.

Our thanks are not only due to Joe but also to his wife Doris, who helped organise this charitable act. This couple have restored our faith in the essential love and kindness of the Maltese people.
