The Malta Union of Teachers yesterday announced it was leaving the Confederation of Malta Trade Unions with immediate effect.
The union said the decision was taken by a secret ballot during its council meeting on Friday. The union stressed that the decision was final and irrevocable.
Last week, the CMTU suspended the MUT following a dispute over whether a Trades Union Council should be created.
The MUT was the second biggest member of the CMTU after the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin.
