My friend and colleague Paul Cassar, former mayor of Victoria, wrote that the first plans for the Victoria bypass were presented during Anton Tabone's tenure as Gozo Minister (The Sunday Times, December 7).

One must note that a bypass from the statue of Ta' Gelmus to the end of Foreman Street, leading to Capuchins Street and ending near Dominic's Department Store in the junction leading to Xagħra, Xewkija and Victoria was initiated in 1986 by the contractor GianMaria Gatt, but sadly stopped by higher authorities. In the budget, Lm100,000 was initially allocated to the project and architect Joseph Mizzi was in charge.
