Invalidity pensions discontinued
Following a review into the invalidity pension scheme, it was found that 430 people did not qualify to continue receiving this pension.
The cases of 1,584 persons who used to receive an invalidity pension under the system up to July 2007 were reviewed between July 2007 and October 2008.
Answering a question in Parliament by Anthony Agius Decelis (PL), Social Policy Minister John Dalli said that as a result of the new system, changes had been made to the application form, the format of medical boards and, for the first time in Malta, a new system of impairment tables to serve as guidelines for the medical boards.

it is an onpen secret, a good number of people getting boarded out from work and declared invalid seek assistance from persons of influence to tip the balance. This assistance is at times gained for reasons beyond their medical /health situation......serious investigation is needed here
