In the remarkable 2-1 friendly win over Germany, Fabio Capello gave Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor his England debut. England became the first team to beat Germany in the city of Berlin since Brazil in 1973.

In his first 10 matches, Italian Capello has given five players their debut.

In the friendly against Trinidad and Tobago in Port of Spain on June 1, 2008, four players made their bow in an England shirt in a full international − forward Dean Ashton (West Ham), goalkeeper Joe Hart (Manchester City), defender Phil Jagielka (Everton) and defender Stephen Warnock (Blackburn). As already mentioned, besides this quartet, there was also Agbonlahor.
