Malta wants to gain developed country status within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Resources Minister George Pullicino said.
Mr Pullicino said that as a result of European Union accession, Malta wanted to move into Annex I of the convention changing its status to that of a developed country and it would be submitting a formal proposal for consideration.
This move would put Malta on the same legal footing as other EU member states.
Minister Pullicino also met the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and presented him with a painting by Maltese artist Luciano Micallef.
