Christian Saliba left his mark in last week's Commonwealth Championships which were held at the Spyro Ciprianos Sports Complex in Limassol, Cyprus.

Saliba was in the Malta team for the championships along with Clint Grech and Stephen Borg. They were accompanied by federation president David Saliba and official Jesmond Caruana.

In all, 20 countries took part.

Grech and Borg did well in their respective categories as Saliba, 16, went on to establish new national records during the championships after lifting in the youth 77kg class.

In Snatch, he set a new record of 72kg while in Clean and Jerk he surpassed the previous best total of 90 kgs by seven kilos.

Saliba's new record for the category now stands at 179kg.
