Two nurses resign from union council
Two nurses have resigned from the executive council of the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses.
The reasons behind their decision were not revealed yesterday but will be given at a press conference today.
One of the nurses is Corinne Ward, a council member who heads the Tissue Viability Unit at Mater Dei Hospital. The other member has not been named.
It is believed the resignations follow the recent spat over the union's hard-hitting directives, which many had felt were irresponsible.
The directives had led former union president Rudolph Cini to call for his successor's resignation and as a result he was ousted from his post as honorary president.
When contacted, MUMN president Paul Pace said he was unaware of the resignations and the press conference and preferred not to comment.

You should get your facts correct before criticizing others.
The whole matter is that Gonzipn is not happy that the unions, among them the MUMN, are working for their members and the Maltese population in general and did not accept his arrogant dictatorial tariffs on water and electricity and fifth columnists are trying to undermine the MUMN.
As for striking, would you allow your employer to constantly burden you with three times the amount of work that you should do, prevent you from taking your leave due to lack of staff, conclude an agreement with your union and then does not implement it, etc.. etc..
Maybe saints would do that, but decent people do not.

@M.Shepard
according to the media coverage the dispute was between MUMN and the Goverment and not between the nurses themeselves. One of MUMN's issues was about the student's nurses/midwives education, and to tackle short of staff issue. As far as I know MUMN never issue directives against other nurses.

I am a nurse here in hull, and am reading what is happening on the island of my mother. My mother is Maltese, and we do get interested in what is going on there. I am currently studying nursing at the university, and have been reading about the MUMN. It is high time, that people leave this union, and form another one. Nurses should never strike, or take directives against nurses. I do not know who Corinne Ward is, but good for her for resigning from the union.
MUMN, should look at what the Royal College of nurses does in the UK. It is a union, but also a professional organisation, and believes firmly in the education of its members.

Without knowing these two individuals at all I'll bet anything they are both blue-eyed.
