Maltese pork is safe and has no traces of dioxin, The Rural Affairs Ministry said yesterday, reacting to the latest international food scare.

The assurance comes after Ireland recalled its pork products which are suspected to be contaminated with dioxins.

The Food Safety Commission said yesterday that such products are unlikely to have reached Malta but advised consumers that as a precautionary measure they should not consume Irish pork or bacon.

In case of any further queries consumers may contact the Department for Environmental Health on 2133 2225 and 2133 7333 between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
