Like the majority of people I am in favour of saving the Għadira beach. If this beautiful and most sought after beach is in trouble we have an obligation to do the best we can to save it.

After all it is part of Maltese heritage. Removing the existing road from the middle of the beach would be wonderful.

Politics aside and looking at the plan shown in The Times, I do have a couple of questions regarding the proposed road.

1. Why is the government proposing to replace a four-lane road with a two-lane road considering the amount of traffic that uses this road?

2. Why is the road being built so close to the Danish Village and the Foresta 2000?

3. Why is this proposed road passing smack in the middle of the boat houses?

I am all for saving the Għadira beach but maybe the government should explore different ways to do it and ask for expert input. I am sure that the EU understands all this and would subsidise a well-planned road to save the beach when and if it is needed.

Sooner or later Malta has to come up with a four-lane road from the St Paul's Bay bypass all the way to Ċirkewwa with exits accordingly and it has to be done before construction devours what's left of the open land. Mepa take note!
