Reid rules out Sunderland return

Former England midfielder Peter Reid has rejected an offer to manage his old club Sunderland to continue coaching the Thai national team.

Reid, who managed the Black Cats from 1995-2002 said he was "enjoying tremendously" his new job with Thailand, his first national team, and was not interested in replacing Roy Keane.

"It's a great job for any manager and of course I want to go back to England at some point, but right now, I've got a new challenge on my hands," Reid told Reuters after Thailand's 6-0 drubbing of Laos on Monday.

"I spoke with Niall Quinn, he's a great chairman but I told him I wasn't interested. I'm enjoying tremendously my time here and plan to stay with the team."

Sunderland are without a manager after former Manchester United midfielder Keane quit last week, leaving the Black Cats in the relegation zone with five defeats in their last six games.

Reid, who previously managed Manchester City, Leeds and Coventry, signed a four-year contract with Thailand in September and is tasked with steering the Kingdom to their first World Cup in 2014.
