The Ministry of Rural Affairs said today that Maltese pork products were safe and contained no traces of dioxin.

The assurance was issued after Ireland recalled Irish pork products suspected to be contaminated with dioxins. The Food Safety Commission said yesterday that such products were unlikely to have reached Malta but it advised consumers that as a precautionary measure they should not consume Irish pork and bacon products.

In case of any further queries consumers may contact the Department for Environmental Health on telephone numbers 21332225 and 21337333 between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
