Birkirkara moved to the top of the Premier League today after beating Tarxien Rainbows 1-0 at the Victor Tedesco Ground.

The only goal came on the hour thanks to a penalty taken by Alan Tabone - a former Tarxien player.

Earlier, Marsaxlokk beat Qormi 3-1 in an encounter which saw three penalties.

Effiong opened the scoring within the first quarter of an hour for Qormi but Christian Cassar equalised 10 minutes into the second half.

Alcorse put Marsaxlokk in the lead with a penalty in the 81st minute and Da Silva failed to equalise for Qormi five minutes later when his chance from the spot ran wide.

Alcorse made it 3-1 with an injury time goal.
