The Food Safety Commission said today that Irish pork products suspected to be contaminated with dioxins were unlikely to have reached Malta.

It however advised consumers that as a precautionary measure they should not consume Irish pork and bacon products.

The Irish food industry has recalled from the market all pork products produced from pigs slaughtered in Ireland. Preliminary evidence had indicated that the contamination problem was likely to have started in September, however, investigations involving the Irish Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (DAFF) and the Food Safety Authority of Ireland are continuing to determine the extent of the contamination and to identify the processors and products involved.

In case of any further queries consumers may contact the Department for Environmental Health on telephone numbers 21332225 and 21337333 between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
