St Patrick's School, Sliema, in collaboration with the Office of the Commissioner for Children, is organising a three-day conference entitled 'Where is home? Exploring therapeutic interventions with children in out-of-home care and their families' from March 12-14, 2009, at the Hilton Malta, St Julian's.

It will be preceded by a pre-conference full day workshop entitled 'Learn the child' led by renown expert Kate Cairns.

The conference will enable participants to discuss the dilemmas and challenges that out-of-home care poses for children and their families within the local context, and to exchange best practices and experiences in the area.

The workshop will focus on exploring strategies and interventions for educators and carers on how best to support the children they look after in their learning, and how to enhance their educational experiences within school settings.

Both events are aimed at local and international educators, academics, students, social workers, care workers, foster carers, therapists, and psychologists.

The closing date for receipt of applications from local participants is February 20; however, applications received by December 20 will benefit from a reduced fee.
