The first edition of the electronic journal Journal of Maltese History (JMH), published by the Department of History, was recently issued. To access the journal, go to http://maltesehistoryonline.com .

The first issue includes papers on the beginning of criminology in Malta; health differentials between Malta and Gibraltar prior to WWII; Malta's independence and the process of decolonisation; the administrative class of the Malta civil service from 1858 to 1964, and a research note on the National Register of Archives.

JMH is edited by Dr John Chircop. It aims to provide studies related to Maltese history and historiography, and to facilitate critical debate on methodological, theoretical and pedagogical issues.

The journal is inviting papers for consideration in preparation for the second issue. Submissions should be sent electronically by March 15, 2009 and to Dr Chircop.
