Travellers to India urged to be cautious

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs yesterday urged people travelling to India to exercise caution and prudence, following the Mumbai attacks. Although the situation was returning to normal, the ministry said things had not as yet settled down entirely.

People should avoid large public gatherings, carefully check the public order situation in the city and follow the indications given by the local authorities.

With regards to the remainder of India, the ministry said one should take into consideration an increased threat from terrorism and exercise particular attention and caution, especially close to main government installations, tourist sites, public places, on public transport and when attending public events.

Furthermore, the security levels have increased at India's major airports, subsequent to the raised alerts.
