New tariffs 'out soon'
The Malta Resources Authority said yesterday it will be publishing the revised water and electricity tariffs in the coming days, having accepted the principles used in the way they were drawn up.
The audit report by Deloitte and Touche will be presented to Resources Minister George Pullicino.
The failure so far to publish revised tariffs has been a bone of contention for industry, which has complained of confusion and uncertainty among operators especially because the new rates will apply retroactively to October 1.
The tariffs were raised amid clamorous protests from all sides, with unions at the forefront in calling for a more reasonable approach by the government especially in the light of the global economic slowdown.
After meeting the unions, the government 10 days ago proposed changes to the tariffs which would raise the eco-discount threshold and save the majority of families an average of €27 a year on their annual bills.

You found time and space to comment on I Galea`s comments but stayed mum on the energy tariffs.
Kindly take Adrian Cardona`s advice and log on the Corriere website. We would then appreciate you comments on the tariffs that will be overburdening our households. And by 2009 we will also be bracing up for a sewage tax too. Serves us right, you would say, maltese rats...

Funny how in other countries like Italy, families are going to save some 370 euros next year in electricity and fuel bills, while here they have been savagely increased. What poor governance.

The people are not going to save anything.....they will be paying more and the more careful they are the more they will have to pay......................a Bill which was 75 euros (50% surcharge) in March will go up to around 142euros (thats an increase of 67euros)........multiply that by three (i.e 3 bills in a year) and thats a 200 euros increase!!
The people will pay more for ineffciencies and incompetence!!

@ I Galea
You should know well because the MLP cried wolf so often, the term became an integral part of your vocabulary.
Cried wolf about joining the EU - Sicilians will rob our jobs.
Cried wolf about joining the Eurozone - too early - devaluate the Lira instead.
Those are just two glaring instances which happened in the last five years.
When a negative party ,like the now PL, goes anti everything, in effect it is crying wolf each time. I have no calculator which will give me the right number of times the LP or PL cried wolf not to mention all the colossal U-turns it made in the last few decades!

Facts are that I am not being 'saved 'anything. My Electricity and Water bills will be going up by extraordinary amounts whilst the price of oil is going down(and likely to go down even more in the near future).

Good point made by Paul Barrett. But then again, this is Malta where everything falls upwards and the Sun shines at night.

The families are not going to save 27 euros a year, but are going to practically see their bills doubled.
Gonzipn first works out that he wants to double the charges, increases them to more than twice so that after protests he may appear benevolent by reducing the original rate by a measly 27 euros.
Gonzipn, we are now accustomed to your dealings and will not be taken for a ride.
Ever heard of the shepherd boy who used to shout wolf?

Is it actually legal (as well as ethical) to change the price upwards after an item has been delivered, used by the customer and cannot be returned.?
