Paola deputy mayor Alfred Borg yesterday thanked all those who expressed their solidarity with him after he was punched in the face earlier this week.

Mr Borg had cautioned a woman whose dog had dirtied the pavement and minutes later a relative of hers approached him and punched him, breaking his spectacles.

In a statement, Mr Borg also thanked the police and said they had carried out their duties impeccably. He said the incident did not discourage him from doing his job and he promised to carry on fulfilling his duty as a councillor.

The Cospicua council yesterday also issued a statement to express its solidarity with Mr Borg.
