Obituary

BONETT. On December 3, at Mater Dei Hospital, GIOVANNA (Vany) of Birkirkara, aged 78, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her sons Guido and his wife Jane, Denis and his wife Anna and Jojo and his wife Valerie, her grandchildren Matthew, Amy and Steve, Ryan and Charlene, Sarah and Karl, and Andrè, her sisters Marija and Helen and her husband Joe, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 8.45 a.m. for St Theresa Sanctuary, Birkirkara, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9.15 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest. Special thanks to all the management and staff at Casa Antonia, Balzan and at Mater Dei Hospital for their care and dedication.

CEFAI. On December 3, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOSEPH GEORGE (ex-Central Bank), of Sliema, aged 85, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his caring wife Maria, née Sidoti, his only devoted son, Dr Renato Cefai and his wife Louise, his loving grandchildren, Dr Adriano and Dr Clarissa, his brothers, sisters and in-laws Mary Naudi, Carmen, Anne Demajo, Maurice, Victor and Ione, John and Isabel, Paul and Mabel, Tony and Helen, Marlene, Melita, Gaetano and Giovanna, Emma, Francesco and Gloria, nephews and nieces. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 9 a.m. for St Gregory's parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9.30 a.m., followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Anthony and his wife Vivie, Doris and her husband Grezzju, Rita and her husband Lawrence, Salvu and his wife Doreen, Joe and his wife Cathrine, Lora and her husband Joseph, Sylvia and her husband Gejtu, and Rosa, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her brothers and sisters, in-laws, numerous relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2.30 p.m. for St Catherine's parish church, Żejtun, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3 p.m., followed by interment at St Gregory's Cemetery, Żejtun. HUBBERS. On December 4, at Mater Dei Hospital, ELLIE, aged two months two weeks, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss, her parents Marcel and Audrey nee Suda, her sisters Emma and Kate, her grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins and relatives. Messa degli Angeli will be held tomorrow, Saturday at St. Julians Parish Church at 9.15a.m. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

SAMMUT. On December 3 at her home in Mosta and in the loving arms of her family, FRANCESCA née Micallef, aged 85, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her irreparable loss her husband Lawrence, her son Charles and his wife Winnie, her daughters Rosalie and her husband Mario Cassar, Mavonia and her husband Peter Thake, and Cynthia, her grandchildren Jan-Luc, Eva-Martina, Mario, Nadia, Andrew, Robert, Christine, Keeron, her sisters Manuela and Rita, nephews and nieces, in-laws, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves her home tomorrow at 2.45 p.m. for the Mosta parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3 p.m. followed by interment in the family grave at the Mosta Cemetery. Poppy Appeal Fund

The Poppy Appeal Fund committee wishes to inform the general public that the Poppy Appeal collection for 2008 raised €21,031.04.

Foundation degree in sciences

Kurt Galea of Attard has just returned from the UK after a three-year study course at the end of which he was awarded a foundation degree in sciences from De Montfort University. Mr Galea, the son of Tanya and Victor Galea, is a former student of St Martin's College. He carried out his studies at Southampton City College and Matthew Boulton College in Birmingham, specialising in dental technology.

Blood pressure tests

The Malta Medical Student's Association will be checking the public's blood pressure and body mass index for free at City Gate, Valletta on Monday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The MMSA will also be providing information on nutrition and eating disorders, anti-smoking, advice on emergency services, sexual health education and human rights.

Russian New Year

The Russian Cultural Centre is evaluating the demand for a gala dinner to mark the Old Russian New Year on January 13. Those interested should phone 2122 2030 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. by December 15.

British High Commission

The British High Commission will be closed for business and consular services on Wednesday in order to conduct an emergency exercise. In a genuine emergency, the duty officer will be available on 9929 5959.

Cribs tour

The St Paul's Bay local council will be holding a cultural outing on December 30, visiting a number of static and mechanical cribs and a live one. Tickets, selling at €6 for residents and €7 for non-residents, include transport and a snack. Bookings and further details are available from the local council's offices.
