The new Kavallieri half-back pairing of Schembri and Micallef combined well to lead a more effective back division as this entertaining match was much closer than the scoreline might suggest.
The improving Alligators started with commitment and despite missing some key players, they produced a decent display. When the Kavallieri backs began to operate more efficiently, the 'Gators' defence was up for the challenge. Several promising moves were stopped dead by good marking and tackles. Farrugia was prominent for Alligators.
Doublesin had a match of contrasts but he seems more comfortable at full-back from where he can launch his scintillating runs.
Kavallieri threatened with a fine break by Micallef, backed by Doublesin then Curtis. A dreadful pass by Doublesin allowed Alligators a 50m gain which was halted by the covering Schembri.
Kavallieri dominated the line-outs for the whole match which gave them the essential base for victory. They opened the scoring with a fine try by Curtis, converted by Micallef. From the kick-off, Mike Bonavia pulled off a superb elusive break and from the ensuing scrum, brother Rob dived over to extend the lead to 12 points at half-time.
As the second half began, Schembri quickly produced a long-distance attack from which Doublesin scored an unconverted try. Then, Schembri and Micallef engineered an impressive break as the Kavallieri backs played with more skill and timing than they had so far this season.
Doublesin was launched again on the burst, a ruck was formed and Grima scored.
Psaila also scored with a powerful run for three quarters of the pitch, converted by Micallef. A 70m passing move allowed Agius to score by cutting in and wrong-footing the defence.
The promising Mallia then grabbed a lucky bounce off a high kick, but showed lack of sportsmanship by throwing the ball away after a stoppage.

Stompers 60
Sharks were a much-improved side after the poor display the previous week even though they could not field a full squad. Although Stompers never looked like losing, the match was still quite entertaining to watch.
At times, the Stompers' handling let them down as they embarked on their usual fast, wide-running style to open up the Sharks defence.
Diacono notched two tries for Stompers, Attard three, Morten, Satariano, Debattista, Zerafa and Fountain had one try each, Attard converting three and Morten two.
Sharks were not cowed and inspired by international Galea, pushed close to the line, from where Moreno scored a try, converted by Aquilina.
Satariano made a welcome return for Stompers and immediately left his mark in line management in the second half. Stompers duo Spiteri and Zammit earned a yellow card each for foul play which evened up the numbers.
However, as soon as the numerical advantage was restored, Stompers scored three more tries but they were made to work hard for their win.
